BAWSI Has Moved!
It's a proud milestone! We now have a "home" of our own and we're thrilled with our new BAWSI digs! If you're in the neighborhood and have a few minutes to stop by and say hello, come see us at: 1922 The Alameda, Suite 100 in San Jose.

All 15 BAWSI Girls Sites Up and Running
BAWSI is in full swing this fall at 15 elementary schools throughout the Peninsula, South Bay, and Gilroy. With 1012 girls enrolled and 14 women's sports teams serving as their "coaches," the playgrounds are filled with an energy that is unmatched. More than 200 women are engaged in BAWSI's Salud por Vida at 8 sites, and 55 kids with disabilities are participating in BAWSI Rollers with wheelchair athletes and able-bodied volunteers providing the leadership. We still have a few campuses where we can use your help. Sign up to volunteer, and come out and join us!

BAWSI Game Day Initiative -- First Event at Stanford, October 30
Recognizing the important correlation of time spent on college campuses to the likelihood that a young girl will eventually pursue a college education, BAWSI has introduced the BAWSI Game Day Initiative, inviting girls from BAWSI sites throughout the Bay Area to attend women's collegiate sports event in the company of other college athletes who will sit alongside them in the stands. Our first BAWSI Game Day will take place at the Stanford women's soccer game on October 30 at 7pm. More than 100 BAWSI Girls from Landels Elementary School in Mountain View with enjoy the BAWSI Game Day experience with the Stanford women's lacrosse team in the stands. If you'd like to join us for the evening, tickets will be available for purchase at the gate.

Anyone Can Be BAWSI Any Time
If time prevents you from volunteering on the BAWSI playgrounds, you can help change lives by making a donation towards our work today. A gift of any amount will be put to work on the playgrounds immediately. Be BAWSI by investing your resources today.

BE BAWSI in the Silicon Valley 5K
BAWSI will be well-represented in the Silicon Valley 5K on Sunday, October 25, in downtown San Jose. Due to some generous donors, more than 100 Salud por Vida participants and their families will join thousands of runners and walkers in this annual event. If you'd like to join them, enter now.

Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon Results
Speaking of running, some very BAWSI women were among the 9892 finishers of the San Jose Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon on October 4. Congratulations to Susan Armenta, BAWSI Salud Por Vida's program director who finished ahead of all but 20 other women runners with an impressive time of 1:29:10. Dena Evans, one of the first athletes to become BAWSI in our early years, was honored on the leader board with a 4th place finish among all women with a time of 1:22:50. Brandi Chastain also completed the race. We're not sure of her official time, but she was reported to have included a 5 minute stop for a snack at her house en route to the finish line!
